Samsung Omnia (i900) Review
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, has launched of Samsung OMNIA (model name: SGH-i900). It brings together high performance business content, top of the range style and a fun, dynamic multi-media experience, to ensure consumers are always connected both at home and at work. OMNIA, meaning ‘everything’ in Latin and ‘wish’ in Arabic, goes beyond the current top-of-the-line features available in mobile phones. The OMNIA was available to the market start from June 2008.
Samsung i900 Omnia, a phone that submits to design direction forced upon the industry largely by the iPhone — full touchscreen, no keyboard, you know the drill by now — and does pretty much everything in its power to overcome WinMo’s limitations to make it competitive in the year 2008. The Omnia sounds like a smartphone dream: 7.2Mbps HSDPA 2100, quadband EDGE, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, 3.2-inch capacitive WQVGA touchscreen, GPS, Windows Mobile 6.1, WiFi, and 8 or 16GB of Flash with microSD expansion, all wrapped in a tight little brushed metal case.
The Omnia i900 from Samsung, which unapologetically looks like an iPhone, has a robust list of capabilities. Its screen, however, at 3.2 inches isn’t quite as luxuriously spacious as the iPhone’s and its 400 x 280 resolution is also inferior. There’s also no 3.5mm headphone socket and though a conversion dongle is included in the box, we’d sooner not have to carry an adapter around just to listen to music and it seems a needless oversight given the capacious storage on offer.
